I visited Bucharest last month, and did a Jewish walking tour to see the Jewish sites. The JCC was noted on the map, and I tried to walk to all the sites that were not on my official tour. I came by on a Friday morning, the doors were open so I entered. Security caught me and sent me out. They called an English speaking woman, and when I told her I wanted to just look around, she told me there is nothing to see, it is just walls and a ceiling. I left, disappointed that I could not see one of the interesting Jewish sites of Bucharest, or even speak to someone who was there about the Bucharest Jewish community. Fortunately, chabad and the synagogues were not like that...

In the center, located in an impressive three-story building, there are activity rooms, a banquet hall (350 places) and even a gym, a sauna and a cafe called the Blue Lagoon. The center, run by the American Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Federation of Romania, provides a social and community life for Jews - residents and tourists. Among the most prominent activities are activities for every holiday, and ongoing activities such as classes, performances, lectures, meetings and discussions and activities every weekend: Oneg Shabbat Na'im - meeting with the Jewish community of Romania and the Israelis on Friday nights, from 18:30 to 19:00 A short prayer in the song and from 19:00 There is a Kabalat Shabbat with a full Shabbat meal that includes Kiddush, Hamotzi blessing, and familiar food. At the end of the meal there is social activity and singing in public. The place can be reached not only on Fridays but every morning during the week. Come, have a cup of coffee, eat a kosher Israeli breakfast, read newspapers and books in Hebrew and enjoy a unique Sunday event called "An Israeli Breakfast." Every Sunday at 11:00, poetry, food and discussions in the Blue Lagoon.
