The Transition Towns Movement is a grass-roots, decentralised global grassroots organisation, launched in 2007 by a group of British people with a background of permaculture and social activism. It started from the observation of problematic realities in the overall human society and created a model of response to them, a set of community-oriented, scalable / applicable practices in both urban and rural areas, starting from current sustainability practices (permaculture, applied ecology, current economic and social alternatives). Part of the TTM, Romania in Transition is promoting - reconnecting the individual and human society to nature through informal education and physical involvement in specific activities (see below). - gardening and permaculture in any environment: urban / rural. - recreation of formal or informal communities, spontaneous or long-term - LETS - Local Exchange Trading Systems - alternative, localised economy - economics / social enterprises - re-skilling: recovering the skills and knowledge of interacting with nature, food and primary production processes of life - decentralisation and relocation of production and resources.
