The Constanta Casino was first built in 1880, and the current structure built in 1910. Over the years it served as a hangout for European jet setters and royals, gambling casino, World War II hospital, Communist Party cultural center, and briefly a restaurant. It was closed in 1990 and has been abandoned since because of litigation and bureaucratic delays. (Wikipedia entry summary) “Work on the Casino continues according to schedule and takes place both indoors and outdoors, around the symbolic edifice of the city. Thus, these days, the municipal teams are working to connect the Casino to a stronger electrical network, which must cope with the growing demand. In parallel, inside, the workers carry out the consolidation and restoration works according to the building permit issued by the City of Constanta respecting the original project, with the architectural details of 1910. The restoration of the Casino is carried out by experts specializing in Class A historic buildings. With the progress of the works, it is possible to see other work built between the walls of the building by those who worked on the rehabilitation of the Casino in the 1950s. Upon completion of the works, the Casino will become a veritable cultural centre and will regain its original brightness. A heritage object is restored and strengthened, thus managing to preserve our cultural identity and, at the same time, to promote it at the national and international level.” (Constanta Casino website entry))

The seafront got renovated lately and serves as one of the best walking places in Constanța, with an amazing view to thw sea and the port. Unfortunately, the Casino building is still abandoned (they said they'll work on it soon, yet no progress is seen). Anyway, go here in the morning or after sunset to get the best of it!

A lot of potential. The buildings still resembles the historical atmosphere and you can image the high society of Europe came by. But it's not maintained at all. Such a pity because the potential is still visible through the building fences.

Nice little boardwalk area down by the sea. The view is nice and when I was walking they had a childrens book fair going on. The Casino itself was closed.

Nice promenade, but what a pure condition this proud building has. It would be so nice to visit this building in his old glamour. A walk be the near Harbour you'll meet friendly fishermen and if you're lucky you are invited on the S A R - Rescue boat APOLLO. Thank you it was an exciting visit for the kids... \u003c3

The area itself it's the most lovely view you will ever get plus the sea aerosols after 5 p.m it's the most healthy thing combined with the windy weather...you will need eventually a jacket. The Casino itself it's a heartbreaking view...the corruption and the sistem have left it rotten...who gives a patrimony just like that for some Chinese people? Fortunately they toke it back...let's see what will happen
