The Danube Delta is one of the most amazing places in Europe, well-worth visiting even if you are not a nature enthusiast and a very outdoorsy person. Tulcea is your gateway to the Danube Delta, you can book all kinds of boat tours that will take you to the wetlands.
From my point of view this is the eight wonder of the world. Nature has made this corner of the country a heaven for animals. Those who live in the villages scattered around the delta are most fortunate to enjoy clean air, peace and quite. During summer time many people from all over the world come here to enjoy it. I myself live in the nearby city and I can't get enough of it.
The Delta is not what it used to be. I returned this year after 30 years to find a empty place on water. The birds, dragon flies and fish are gone. And all that is left is a deserted village trying to survive decently with seasonal tourism. Respect for those that stayed to help.
We were on St. Gheorghe arm (it contained 4-5 channels). 100RON / person 50ron/children. Beautiful landscapes, vegetation, different birds, water lilies, brochures, etc.
a unique place on earth to visit....wild areas...Black Sea nearby...it is quite an experience ; i will do it again with every opportunity.
