Baile Herculane, the forgotten \pearl of Romania\ and the country's one of the biggest shame to let ruin such a place! Stunning geographical location, beautiful old palaces and thermal baths all ruined! Must mention, that lately you can discover some trying of renovation but in this rhythm maybe someone' grand grand children will be able to really injoy it. Pitty and heartbreaking!

Nice statue about Hercules.
Hercules' statue is the landmark of the resort since 1847, it's made out of cannon steel by German craftsmen Glantz and Romelmayer and, in my opinion, could be evidentiated better through lights and a better landscape. It's located in the historic Imperial Center, which also features centuries-old buildings, a central park (containing even a Sequoia tree - one of the few in Romania) and roman basins for treatment in thermal waters. The statue itself was a present from the Austrian archduke Carol for the healing powers of the water that cured his officers and soldiers.
It's sad to see such a beautiful place go to ruin
Nice statue, not so nice surroundings. There were some renovations going on. I hope they'll lead to something.
This is a very old historic town, a place that Romans had built like 2000 years ago and the king Ferdinand 1st restored 100 years ago or so. Since then, not much was done to the historical site. Private pensions and motels were blooming and some are still under construction. Despite of having non-refundable money for projects like this, the city can't do much. Still, I recommend spending a weekend here and enjoy the benefit of the thermal minetal waters, a walk or a hike.
Not good it's in a deplorable situation all the resort
very nice, gorgeous, thermal sulfuric water
