If you are passing by it is worth a visit, even if for 30 mins as a break from driving. Located on the top of a mountain, with the road passing through a quarry, it is the closest thing to a fairy-tale monastery you can get...and all in real life.

This is a hidden gem. It was rebuilt in the 19th century under Gheorghe Bibescu in a style that differs somewhat from the traditional Romanian way of building monasteries. It's beautiful and peaceful and very much worth visiting.
Second time I visit. I especially liked the small cave you can visit for which the path starts inside the monastery.
The monastery is beautiful, at the bottom of wild mountains. The church is rebuilt at 1850 in That style and the paintings done by a famous painter of the time are superb. There is a path to a cave and up the hill there is also a small stone church with beautiful exterior decorations. It is funny to see for the first time people crawling under the hundreds years old remains of a person thinking that this way they will be lucky, God will help them.
A very peaceful and quiet place, the bigger \sister\ of the Arnota Monastery! Of course, I strongly recommend a visit there, it is a treasure: well done arranged and rehabilitated, very beautiful area, in the vicinity of many other touristic attractions, near the Bistrita gorge who is a splendid and spectacular place. The monastery and the church are built like a fortress by the noble family of Craiovesti squires in 1480, maybe sooner or later. The monastery is also famous because here, in 1508, was published, in Slavonic language, the first Liturgical Book in the history of the old Romania. You have to see this place, it is awesome and it demonstrates what beautiful things you may discover in this fairy tale named Romania...
A must see! Very old and Beautiful!
